Office Procedures

IUD insertion – Anticipate pelvic cramping for 24-48 hrs following the procedure. You can take Motrin 600mg orally every 6 hrs for the first day as needed and continue if cramping persists. It is normal to have vaginal spotting for the first 1-3months after insertion. Safe to use pads or tampons for the bleeding.

Colposcopy- After your procedure, you might have mild cramping, some vaginal bleeding and brown to black discharge from a solution used to stop bleeding during the procedure. Avoid intercourse for 1-2 weeks while cervix heals or until bleeding stops.

LEEP– After your LEEP procedure you can expect to have mild cramping, some vaginal bleeding, and brown vaginal discharge.  Please do not place anything inside your vagina – no tampons, douching or sexual intercourse for the next 4 weeks.  Avoid any strenuous exercise for the next two weeks.

Please call the office for any of the following symptoms:

o Fever greater than 100.4°

o Vaginal bleeding that is heavy, requiring you to change a pad every hour

o Severe abdominal pain


Essure
– Following your Essure procedure it is normal for you to experience mild cramping and some light vaginal bleeding or watery discharge.  This may last for 1 to 2 days.  Please do not place anything inside your vagina for the next week – no tampons, douching or sexual intercourse.

It is important for you to use a backup method of birth control for the next 3 months until you have had confirmation of your tubal occlusion with your hysterosalpingogram (HSG).  Failure to use birth control during this time may result in pregnancy.

Please call the office for any of the following symptoms:

o Fever greater than 100.4°

o Vaginal bleeding that is heavy, requiring you to change a pad every hour

o Severe abdominal pain
